Baby Talk

Matty has become quite the conversationalist. We don't know what he's saying, but what he lacks in vocabulary, he makes up for in enthusiasm. Here's some video of Juan and Matty chatting it up.

And, a couple recent pictures...

Happy Turkey Day!

Well, Matty has had several firsts since my last blog entry - first week at day care, first cold (coincidence? I think not), first airplane ride and first Thanksgiving! We left last Tuesday for El Paso to see Juan's family for Thanksgiving. He was a great little traveler. He got very excited and smiley when we were waiting at the gate both on the way there and the way back - I guess he likes to travel! He hardly made a peep on the flight either way, so no dirty looks for us from the other passengers!

Matty had a great time meeting his cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts & uncles, etc while in El Paso, including the three other new babies who joined the family this year. It was very cute to get all the babies together. Here's a picture of the four expectant mothers together several months ago in El Paso at the baby shower Juan's family threw for us, ordered left to right from least pregnant to most pregnant

And, the four of us with the babies now...

And, the four babies together - left to right they are Angel Sebastian (6 months old), Juan's cousin Tzuni's baby, Jasmine Zoe (4 months old), Juan's sister Darcy's baby, Matty (3 months old), Isaac Nathanial (2 months old), Juan's cousin Citlali's baby.

We also got snow while in El Paso! We woke up Saturday morning to about 3 inches on the ground. Here's a nice picture Juan got of the mountains coated in snow -

Unfortunately, Matty's cold got really bad while we were there, so we had to take him in to a pediatric night clinic to get him checked out. They said he had bronchilitis (fancy speak for wheezy lungs) and the start of an ear infection. So, we were set up with a nebulizer for him to breathe in medication for his lungs and antibiotics for the ear infection. Treating him with the nebulizer has been an interesting experience. It takes a good 15 minutes to give him the whole dose of medication, which is a looooong time with a squirmy baby. He's usually reasonably cooperative for the first 10 minutes, then after that he either starts fussing in earnest or gives up and falls asleep. Here's a picture of him hooked up to "The Machine".

Luckily, his cough improved very quickly with the nebulizer, so he was in a pretty good mood after the first day or two and had lots of fun hanging out with Juan's family - here are some good pictures from the rest of the weekend...

First day of "school"

Well, my maternity leave has gone by way too quickly, and it's time for me to get back to the real world. I start back to work part time this coming Monday, so today, tomorrow and Friday, Matty goes to day care for a few hours each day to help us both adjust. Here is a picture of him on his way to "school" - funny how his expression captured my feelings!

Living the good life

Here is a collection of pictures of Matty living the good life that babies have - resting after a big meal, sleeping on Mom and Dad, hanging out in his swing, etc. I hate to tell him that it's all downhill from here :-)

This is what happens when you let Daddy change your diaper...

Happy Halloween!

We celebrated Matty's two month birthday by dressing him up as a pumpkin and parading him around to the neighbors. Unfortunately, only one of our neighbors was home to supply to requisite ooohing and awwwing (our neighborhood doesn't have alot of kids, so not much trick or treating unfortunately). But, here are some pictures of Matty in his Halloween costume and Halloween jammies (thanks Aunt Maggie for those!).

2 Months Old!

Apologies for the delay in posting new pictures! Apparently, babies peak in fussiness from 6-8 weeks in age. That should explain my blogging silence :-)

As for what's new with Matty...we took him in for his two month check up a couple of weeks ago. He is growing like a weed, and weighed just shy of 12 pounds and was 23.5 inches long. He was 75% for length, 60% for weight and only 55% for head circumference - a fact which is quite suprising considering the prize mellons on his parents! He also had his first round of shots - 4 of them in the thighs. He is now well on his way to hating the pediatrician.

We also had our first cold snap - finally!!! Here are some pictures of him looking cute in his cold weather gear. Thanks to great aunt Joyce for the adorable puppy dog hat!

Playing with Daddy

Matty is getting more and more interactive by the day. We can almost always coax smiles out of him now when he's content, and he's starting to make adorable cooing sounds too. Check out these two videos of Juan playing with him - cute stuff! In the first one, he smiles a ton, but unfortunately there's a shadow across his face. In the second one, the shadow is gone, but you have to wait until the very end to see the smile.
